The all-in-one baby tracker - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

No, as the founder, I am a subject matter specialist – in the field of parenting. My co-founder is a full-stack software developer with a huge amount of experience in mobile app development and coding.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

On the code side, the functionality to develop a bespoke routine and generate the home dashboard.

Meg Faure is an Occupational Therapist (OT), author, and parenting expert. As an early year’s specialist and mum of three children, Meg knows that parenting is the toughest vocation of all. She’s made it her life’s work to positively impact the lives of parents and their young children with sound advice, practical know-how, and good sense.

Meg is passionate about making cutting-edge neuroscience accessible to parents through her books, courses, online seminars, and mobile app – Parent Sense. Parents are assured of reliable, expert guidance from pregnancy to early childhood – arguably the most challenging and important stage of the human journey for both parents and little ones.

Meg has worked in various clinical settings over the last 20 years, including a pediatric rehab facility in New York, in private practice, and a school for children with special needs. As a journalist, speaker, and author in the field of child psychology, parenting, and child development, she has written 8 parenting titles, including the bestsellers Baby Sense and Weaning Sense.

Also, an avid entrepreneur, Meg founded the product company Baby Sense in 2011 and launched her parenting mobile application, Parent Sense in 2020. The app takes the guesswork out of parenting in the first year including a personalized baby routine, as well as tracking and guidance on sleep, feeding, health, and development.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Calm and Headspace are frequently used by me. Social media apps are also used a lot. Most of my most-used apps are integrated with businesses on the back end – like parking apps, banking, etc.

How long have you been working on this app?

Just two years this month from the start of the build.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

New parents – moms and dads - have so many questions and this app not only makes parenting easier but provides a bespoke daily routine for the baby.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Parent Sense is unique in that each individual baby’s day is created based on the data the parents track in the day – the routine changes according to time of waking in the morning, age at which solids are started, whether the baby was born premature, sleep times and vaccination status. This guides parents to know what meals, sleep times, and stimulation activities their babies need that day. Unlike the category leader, the app is based on science and on the expertise of the founder – a published author and clinician in the parenting space.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Our next release will include parenting courses – like the popular Sleep Sense Online course, a weaning course, and a postnatal course. Thereafter we will release multi-user functionality.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

We love positive feedback on the app stores so look forward to hearing from our superusers why they love the app. Please share on socials too.
