BabyG: Parenting & Development - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

We have made apps before so have prior app business experience.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

We had to ensure the app is global at the same time it has to give localized experience, that’s where we did some hard lifting to create a DNA where app can cater to users across cultures and can adapt to user needs at scale.

The interviewee, Birma Ram, is a father and co-founder of BabyG app. He is a seasoned product expert and has built multiple products in past like shortlist.net, Wave Browser, etc. He has 10+ years of experience in product development and is MBA from IIM Ranchi.

BabyG is an early development app for growth in 0-3 year babies. Loved by 300k+ parents worldwide, BabyG is one of the highest rated parenting apps and used in more than 50 countries. Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

We like Flo app for women cycle tracker for the simplicity of usage while have depth in content. Calm is another app we admire for the user experience.

How long have you been working on this app?

We started work on the app in 2021 and launched MVP in Aug’21, full version was released in Jan’22.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Every parent wants to give the best start to their baby but doesn’t know how to do it or spend lot of time figuring it out. Our app help every parent to support their baby’s development in the first 3 years through an expert-driven program.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

At BabyG, we approach the topic of baby development at global level with a program that is easy-to-implement, rather than providing knowledge on parenting which is already available on internet. Think of BabyG as the “Headspace of parenting” where every parents gets an action-oriented plan for their baby, driven by science, to simply follow and achieve progress with baby.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

As we speak to more of our users, we understand their needs deeper. With our next features we will try to give more control into parent’s hands and also focus on bridging the gap between experts and parents within the app.
