Heroes of Flatlandia - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I had. I studied programming with a specialization in computer graphics at university. After that, I worked as a programmer and partly even as 3d graphics designer. My brother has his university education in programming too.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

In my opinion, we took quite a big project as our first game. So there were few moments where we didn’t know if we even finished it at all. Surprisingly we accomplished it, and when we published our first version, it had excellent reviews. On the other hand, it had a lot of things that users want to be done. So for the last two years, we are still improving it.

Martin Klement is an experienced programmer and 3D graphics designer from the Czech Republic. He teams up with this brother to develop cool projects.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Maybe it's a little bit strange, but I usually don’t play mobile games at all. So I can’t say that I love any.

How long have you been working on this app?

We started the development in May, 2016. So far, we are working on it in our spare time.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Hard to say, our main motive to create this game was to bring a game type of fantasy turn-based strategy to mobile devices. As kids, we loved games like Heroes of Might and magic and Age of Wonders and because of the lack of a game similar to these, we decided to make one.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

As I said in a previous article, the game with the same principles as HoMaM or AoW was not in the market at all. I mean there are lots of turn-based strategies, but nothing comparable with old-school PC games. The second thing that our monetization model doesn’t include microtransactions. We take away as a premium app, where players have everything unlocked.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Currently, we are finishing campaign mode and improving the game UI. After that, we still have quite a long to-do list. It contains a hero leveling system refractor or more units/factions, scenarios, spells, and other things.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

Due to the really small size of the team (me and brother), we didn't have enough time to fully retest it before each release. So, if players find something problematic, please don’t hesitate to contact us over the email.
