Fancade - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I've been making games for 25 years, releasing my first tiny indie games in 1998.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Fancade has thousands of mini-games. And all of those games were in fact created *with the app itself*! A huge amount of time has gone into developing the tools that allow Fancade users to make entirely new games of their own.

Computer games are Martin's love of life. He grew up playing them and after pursuing a degree and a career related to AI, he left both of these paths to become a full-time Indie game developer, and that too a great one!

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

My games are inspired by Monument Valley, which is one of my favorite mobile games and drop-dead gorgeous to look at. On PC I think FEZ is just a tremendous achievement, such a pleasant world to explore!

How long have you been working on this app?

The initial development took maybe 4 years. But we've added so much since version 1.0, and after 6 years of work we still have so much more to do!

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Fancade has fun simple games, and lots of them! It should be fast and easy to get started, yet have enough content that you can come back for more new experiences every day.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

There's really no other app that lets you create your own games like this using just a phone or tablet. I hope it helps make game dev more accessible for everyone.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Right now we're working on an entirely new game mode, plus a perspective camera for creators. We have lots more plans that we're not ready to reveal yet.
