Tournament and bracket manager - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, we have been working with web development since 1999. The team has plenty of coding experience already and are always looking for keeping up with the latest technologies to bring the best experience on our projects.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of our app is to be complete yet simple, to allow the creation with few interactions but always keeping the possibility of making a sophisticated Tournament if so desired.

There is also the challenge of embracing lots of different modalities and tournament formats while keeping a “custom” option to design your tournament if no preset is present for your modality/format.

Challenge Place is a complete app for managing your championships and competitions. You can create your tournaments any way you want, with support for both sports and eSports.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

We love sports and gaming apps, we keep in touch with them to keep our team up to date. Apps like Twitch, Strafe, ESPN and even Twitter are a few that we are always following.

How long have you been working on this app?

We started to envision this app in 2010, made some prototypes and validations. In 2016 We set up a team to really make the Challenge Place app and managed to launch the very first version in 2017. So we are working on this in the last 12 years, with a full team effort since in the last 6 years.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

As gaming/sports/esports lovers ourselves, we feel the pain to manage our small competitions, and the lack of data retention once it is finished, so we made a tool that makes it easy to create/manage a competition and persist our data. While allowing a great granularity of events and generating plenty of stats for the competitors.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

There are lots of differentials on Challenge Place, It has lots of types of tournaments with modalities and events/statistics associated with it and a custom mode to make any other that isn't available yet. It has no limits on how many stages, teams, competitors, players, events, or anything else. It's a real-time application, so the competitors keep up with everything that happens in its tournaments as soon as the administrators change anything. Only to name a few, and all of this being a free app.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We have plenty of feedback from our beloved users every day, and read and answer everyone. Our roadmap is mostly fed up based on that feedback. Currently, our main focus is on aggregating the statistics of different tournaments (like a league) and giving more options to the users that participate in the tournaments to engage with the app, besides only following up the results.
