Creating an intuitive app with a simple but clean user interface can be challenging at times, especially when we see our app after all these years with different eyes than a user who installed it the first time. Therefore we want to guide the user as best as possible, but at the same time make sure that the user understands all aspects and functionality without being overwhelmed.
TellowsJessica, the interviewee, is the marketing manager of tellows. For over five years, she has been working on the product development and branding of tellows. App store optimization, concept creation, and project development are some of her core responsibilities. Tellows company is based in Germany and strives to protect people around the world from unwanted calls with mobile apps, landline solutions and our phone number reverse search website.
The German quiz app “Quizduell” keeps me challenged every day. A home workout (especially during the current pandemic) with “Cyberobics” is the best way to burn off energy and focus on new challenges.
We are working on our apps for over 8 years. Including a re-launch for the iOS app 4 years ago.
We want to help users identify unknown calls that could be potentially dangerous and we want to give them a better feeling when answering a call. Several protection levels help the users creating their own personalized protection.
We have a really distinctive separation of the spam phone numbers that we have collected and do not simply differentiate spam and non-spam. Our own scoring system (tellows score) allows making more precise evaluations. Some calls are more annoying than others and people around the world perceive incoming calls in a different way. The scoring also allows to manually change the protection level e.g. by only blocking the worst-rated callers or also phone numbers with ratings that range in a wider span. We also provide information on the caller name and category to make a more detailed caller ID possible.
We do not collect any more permissions than necessary to identify incoming calls to give the user a secure feeling. We believe in our community and want everyone to be protected, so we make a cross-device usage of the tellows blacklist for registered users possible by connecting our apps, landline products, and the website.
We are trying to listen to the user and always improve the functionality and interface. More possibilities for personalization are on our current to-do-list. Blocking of area prefixes and country prefixes will be something we will work on next.

How the App Works
