Apparently no real app development skill, but coding skills in various languages. Before Tax@Home, I created some other Apps, and I gained development skills on the way.
That is an interesting question, and I could probably speak for hours about it. In short: The most challenging aspect was not creating the App itself. It was accepting that an app is never finished. New UI/UX designs appear and are developed that make a difference and create new possibilities for the user to interact with the App. It is incredible what happened over the years on the app market.
Tax@HomeThe starting point for the idea was a lecture on tax law, during which Barbara asked herself the question: "Why is the employee assessment actually hated by so many people? Can't it be done much more simply?" Barbara then teamed up with Stefan and Maria-Sophie to realize the idea together. Tax@Home was born. In 2021, the project Tax@Home became the company taxtastic GmbH. The taxtastic board (including Stefan, the interview partner) is shown in the photograph. Stefan, the interview partner, has been developing the App and managing the development from the start of Tax@Home. I like the Adobe Scan app because it is practical. I often use Google Apps, mostly Google Maps for Navigation. Signal is a fantastic messenger. For organization, I like Trello.
The initial creation was long ago, was 2017. Since then, I have constantly increased usability, adding valuable features for the users. It happened a lot in the last few years. I started with a few practical methods, like snapping a picture of your invoice and categorizing it for tax purposes. Over the years, many functionalities were added, like handing in the tax declaration, having an interactive question flow like a tax consultant, and searching for nearby tax consultants. Just to name a few of it. And we were the first mover in the Tax-Apps in Austria and are since then market leader in Austria.
Users like or would be happy to pay fewer taxes. In the Austrian tax system, reducing tax would mean collecting invoices and relating them to your job. To make this happen, one should change its habit. Generally speaking, habit-changing is tricky. But to make it most easy for the taxpayer, we thought creating an app and making a snap of your invoice is the easiest and cleanest way to increase your tax return. Seems so simple. We were the first tax app on the german speaking market with this idea.
Oh, there are other good tax apps too. Our USP is how we inform users about possibilities to lower their taxes and make it easy for them to track invoices. We are the only App that can monitor if you are driving with the car, and you would like to include this in your tax refund. Driving with your personal car to business meetings can increase the tax return excessively. We are also developing AI with a small data approach to automatically categorize the invoices into tax categories. You can look at the API if you go to www.taxtastic.at. This AI-API in the App increases the UX significantly.
We will constantly work on the App to increase usability. This year there will be the full release of the AI classification for the taxpayer. We are excited and think this will happen in February. At the end of Mai, there will be a major release for freelancers to have the possibility to do their tax refund with our App. But most current, these days, we launched an interactive chatbot to inform yourself about taxes in Austria in the App. The online version is available under https://bots.convaise.com/convaise/ida/.
We would be happy to receive new users' feedback on the app stores. And if I have one wish free, sharing the App with friends would help us grow and provide a better app service for all app users.

Instructions for your first tax entry: ?
- Open the app and click on the big plus
- Click on the plus in the Receipts section and select either the ? Camera, the gallery or a PDF as proof of your receipt
- With the photo ?️, the name, date, value, depreciation, and tax category are automatically assigned.
- ? Logbook included.
- Click on the checkmark at the top right and your first entry is ready!
- ? Tip: Use the app widget for even faster entries.
Would you like to change your entry afterward? With a click on the entry, you can change it again. You can delete or copy an entry by staying on the post.
You can find more menu items by clicking on the symbol at the top left. The navigation contains links to the website, social media, friend invitation, app instructions, the option to keep your data safe, push notification settings, and the privacy policy.
