Cryptohopper – Crypto Trading - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

I've got a background in the film & music industry but have always had a passion for entrepreneurship and emerging technologies. My brother, with whom I started this company, began learning to code at a very young age and continued to expand his skillset over the years. He's an incredible developer – the fastest I've ever seen.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Cryptohopper scans the markets 24/7, so it requires compute power that continuously scans people's algorithms on the markets. We also created an AI, before ChatGPT existed, that learns from your algorithms, tests them, and switches to the best performing one automatically. This functionality, which was designed by my brother, was not publicly available before, and it was very impressive and challenging to build.

The interviewee, Ruud Feltkamp, is the Co-Founder of Cryptohopper, a company he founded with his brother Pim Feltkamp in 2017. Cryptohopper is the leading automated trading bot in the market.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

How long have you been working on this app?

When we launched V2 in 2021, the feedback was terrible! People hated it. We've learned a lot from the input users gave, and it was a big lesson for us. These learnings resulted in our current app, which our users love. I'm very proud of how we turned the unsuccessful launch into a learning experience and a better app.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We first needed to understand when and why users are using our app, as it's not just a mobile version of the platform. There's a specific reason why they're on mobile and not a laptop. So we found it important that checking the performance of the trading bot was most important, and giving users control to make small tweaks. Creating new bots and adding all functionality was secondary. We've just launched a mobile bot builder to make it easy to build bots on mobile, but we haven't added all functionality. Arbitrage, for example, is one we're not planning to add.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

I really like how our app gives a clear overview of the investments your bot makes. It's easy on the eyes, easy to see all your investments, and easy to switch (and now add) bots. Whenever you need to alter the settings, it's also easy to do and to see what the settings entail.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Although I can't reveal everything, I can say we're adding functionality for creating new bots. It should become easier to build plug-and-play bots. One big hiccup here is how Apple and Google have built their payment systems, which makes it difficult to offer a marketplace like we do on the platform. This is a challenge we're trying to solve currently. We also hope to have a major announcement in six months' time that will significantly benefit users.
