Yes I was developing many apps before.
The most challenging was to rewrite the app and then launch it. 5 years ago we decided to commit to the development full-time and rewrite everything: backend, design, monetization. It took 6 months more than expected and then the rollout to users was a nightmare. Users were upset from the new design, there were problems with backend migrations, people were criticizing the new monetization. We have listened to the feedback and changed the most pressing concerns. But we have lost rating on the store that time. Today we are back at 4.7 rating.

I was myself struggling with this problem: When going for a trip with my friends, money was an issue. Some people were paying for others, other didn't. That caused a tension in the group. When we got back, we had all these receipts and it was a nightmare to figure out who should pay to whom. So I build Settle Up to manage group expenses for us.
Our main competitor is Splitwise. I think UX of our app is easier to use. Plus we have a robust support for multiple currencies, Splitwise has it in a Premium plan. And our Premium costs less than Splitwise. Another thing is that we don't force everyone in the group to download the app, it's completely OK if just one person has it and enters expenses for everyone.
We are currently experimenting with payments via Bitcoin Lightning network. We have other feature in mind such as comments/chat about expenses.
