Yes, but when I started developing the app some 12 years ago, coding for mobile devices was a completely new field. The app’s initial name was 'GPS long distance log', which was a bit long, so it was changed to LD-Log. It was first developed for sailors, but has since been used for many different purposes that require geolocation and positional tagging. Sail-Log has since become the sailing-only version of the app.
The most challenging, ongoing aspect is to maintain Sail-Log’s core feature, which consists of enabling the device to continuously track GPS position over long distances in an extremely battery-efficient way. Over the years, the Android system has become more restrictive in terms of allowing developer access to continuous background processing functionality, because many apps abused these features in the past. I constantly need to be very creative.
The developer chose not to answer this question.
About 12 years.
As a passionate sailor, I developed the app to satisfy my own needs in terms of keeping a ship’s log in a convenient and efficient way. This means not only recording GPS position, but also being able to attach specific information to them, including images. I’ve since discovered that many other sailors had been searching for something like this for a long time; in addition, it appears that LD-Log is being used for an astonishing variety of purposes that I hadn’t foreseen.
As described above, the core feature of the app (and that which distinguishes it from its competitors) is its extremely efficient battery consumption, which makes it possible to continuously record GPS position and other logging data over the course of several days on one battery charge.
I receive a lot of great user feedback; these sometimes include specific feature requests which I often incorporate in my app updates.
If you like the app, please support it with a rating – thank you!

Sail-Log is an app that tracks your travel routes using your device’s GPS receiver. You can take waypoints manually or automatically with a user-definable interval set in minutes. The app is designed to consume very little battery power. Sail-Log also offers a tracking mode, allowing you to record your movements by the second.
You can keep a complete nautical ship’s log in an intuitive manner with an editable waypoint-list for each route of your trip. Sail-Log is can be used to document a wide range of travel situations including: offshore sailing cruises, voyages, ship and boat tours, photo geotagging, collecting geo locations (POI), cartography, etc. - for professional or recreational use.
This is a new version of the popular app LD-Log and is identical to it, but without the option to deactivate sail mode. If you would like to try it first, search for the free version LD-Log Lite.
