Medicos Medicine: History and Clinical Examination - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Even though I am a 4th-year Medical Student, I have always been a tech enthusiast. I have tried coding as a hobby, from learning q basics in my school days and making snake games by watching YouTube videos. Never had I thought those skills would come into play in such a way that I would be able to create a platform where I could join the Medical field and Technical field. And make the medical field digital.

From learning some coding in my spare time and watching YouTube videos to build mobile apps were my only coding experiences. I always took it as a hobby.

But now we have a development team who is working with us. We have computer engineers and professionals with great working experience who are working on our apps.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

On a personal level, I would say being a medical student giving time and effort to build mobile apps was challenging for me.

Software development, either it be mobile, web, or desktop, is always a long process that takes so much time and effort. Sometimes waking you up at night just to solve some bugs so users can have a better experience. I would say in this long process of software development, from planning, requirement analysis. Specifications, designing, developing, coding, testing, documentation, production and maintenance and every other thing that falls into it, the one that has been most challenging is trying to decide how our users would love to use our apps. In the beginning, understanding what the users need and how they want it is quite challenging to decide and analyze I would say.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Google Lens and Google Keep.

These are two apps I frequently use and always have on my phone. I use them very often. These apps have extremely simple designs and polite user interface and a smooth user experience.

Google keep is customizable, it feels like I can change that app the way I want to. It feels homely.

Google Lens, on other hand, does such a prolific job on detecting images, translating languages from images and so many other things that are so necessary for daily use. This is such a useful app that I think everyone should use it. I just love it.

How long have you been working on this app?

Being a medical student, managing time to build apps is challenging. I built this app within 3 months’ time, some sacrifices on sleep have been made for a couple of days.

But now I have completely handed it to my development team, and they are taking care of its maintenance and new updates are releasing soon as well.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

To be very honest, I used to focus on what I would need; more than the users’ need. What features I would love to have in my app while building this app, I think I made it for me and my friends. I never thought it would get such massive love from everyone.

Being a medical student myself, when I am searching for medical content on the internet, It was difficult for me to get specific content. I had to dig holes a lot and invest so much time just to get some specific content. So I wanted to have a flashcard feature in my app so that users can get information in flash. Most of the features that I build come from my own experience. Because I never had thought that I was making an app for the general public. It was an app I was making for myself.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Software is all about problem solving. We solve problems , save people’s time and give them easy access to medical content which would be costly , time consuming to find and study otherwise. We are providing service to our app users and trying to make it more fun and easy for medical students to study.

When our users give us positive feedback and share how the app has helped them so much , it all feels worth it and that is what I am more proud of.

And I think of it as our upperhand as well in the market because we have gone through the problem , we understand the necessity and know how to make it better. And we put all that in our apps.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Now I have realized that the app I built as my app and for me is not just mine anymore. Many users give so much feedback and that has also motivated me and my team. Now we know what the users want and we are also in the process of coming up with an updated version. This version will have a better User Experience, a training section where users can train and get certified, and many more.

Our goal is to have 100k+ downloads in 2021 with positive feedback. However, more than numbers, we prioritize users satisfaction as numbers are just a byproduct of it.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

Firstly, I would thank all our Medicos for using our app and being part of this. I would suggest them to keep using our app. Not only Medicos Medicine but we have other apps for different faculties too like Medicos PDF, Medicos ECG, Medicos Histology, Medicos Radiology, Medicos Dental, Medicos Surgery, Medicos Pedia, Medicos abbreviation, Medicos MCQ [most fun one]. Please take full advantage of our apps and help us on our goal to make medical field digital a well. Share our apps to people who you might think needs it, give us your honest feedback so we can improve ourselves and keep loving Medicos International.

And thank you for being part of our family.
