I worked almost 10 years as a software developer at the 'Toronto IBM Software Lab', mainly on web and Java projects for 'WebSphere Commerce'. I was a Team Lead for the last 4 years and the Lead Developer on 'WebSphere Commerce Analyzer,' a data mining product for 'WebSphere Commerce'.
In this particular case, it was wrapping my head around React and Redux, coming from an Enterprise Java/old-school JavaScript programming background. But now that I get it, I love it!
A father of 5 girls (including twins), I am an entrepreneur running 2 businesses (founder of 'CalendarBudget', co-founder of 'The Digital Marketing People'). Using technology (specifically web apps), I aim to solve personal and business problems in a simple way.
For pure utility, 'Google Hangouts', 'Facebook Messenger', 'Gmail'. Straightforward and intuitive solutions to well-defined problems.
Since March 2018.
We have an existing browser web app. We also have a mobile web version that doesn't perform well and has significant limitations. The need was to get that functionality into a well-designed native mobile app to better serve our users and "get with the times".
Before beginning design/coding I evaluated more than 20 competitive personal finance apps. Only a few were similar, but we really gleaned what worked and what didn't from a UI/usability perspective. We wanted the user experience to be great while still fitting in as much functionality as possible. I think we nailed the design of the main calendar screen, putting 'CalendarBudget' in best-of-class territory for a personal finance app that allows you to forecast your balance.
We launched with minimal functionality and we are rapidly working towards delivering all to the functionality that the web app has. Once that is complete, we have a huge list of new features/functionality we intend to deliver - many items from user suggestions.
Share the app and give us an honest review on the app stores.
