Breaking Gates – 2D Action Platformer (Early Access) - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I do have prior coding experience. I have a Computer Science degree and I used to develop educational children games before I moved on to developing games for the mainstream players.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

There are plenty of challenging things that we faced during the development of Breaking Gates. However, we feel that the most challenging one was to keep the game working smoothly even on the lower end devices. The game has lots of animation and it can be heavy to the hardware.

Budhi Tantra, the interviewee, is the owner of PlayPlayFun LLP. It is a platform where you can play, publish, and promote your favorite games.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Personally, the game is inspired from other games that we have played in the past. The battle is highly inspired by the battle in the Langrisser series as well as Dragon Force (Sega Saturn). There are some influences as well from Ogre Battle.

These games are classic strategy games that I grew up playing and have always wanted to develop something similar to it.

As for why I love those games, that’s easy. They are one of the leading turn-based strategy games in the market back in the days and I have always had soft spots for TBS games, so it’s natural for me to enjoy the games.

How long have you been working on this app?

Breaking Gates has entered the third year of its development.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Breaking Gates is developed by those who enjoyed a similar action-platformer game like Castlevania and Metroid. We feel that the Play Store can use a solid Metroidvania kind of game with full gamepad support. So, we hope that our game can fill the void ?

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Our game is not only an action platformer / beat ‘em up game. But we also have features like leveling up, crafting, and quest system that makes the game even deeper and more engaging for players… and after 3 years working on improving up to the fine details of the game, we can’t be prouder to showcase our game to the public.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

More new maps and enemies, of course. We will also consider a console version of Breaking Gates.
