Algorand Wallet - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

The app is created by a team of seasoned developers, designers, and product managers with a wide variety of previous app and product experience.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of creating a cryptocurrency wallet is providing crypto-experts the advanced features they desire while also making it accessible and intuitive for newcomers to the space.

My name is Ian Cross and I've been a product manager at Algorand for almost 2 years now. I work as the product lead for the Algorand Wallet, and I also work closely with the core Algorand engineering team on the blockchain itself.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I would say my favorite app is Google Photos. It's so feature-packed, easy to use, and continuously getting better. As just one example, a relatively new Google Photos feature allows you to use a search engine to search your photos (ie, show me all of my photos that have a basketball in them). Runners up would be Spotify and DuoLingo.

How long have you been working on this app?

About a year and a half at this point.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

The basic need we're fulfilling is providing a secure and official way for users to transact on the Algorand Blockchain.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Aside from a generally solid UI and design, we provide a number of features that don't exist in other wallets, such as rekeying (which is essentially the ability to change how your accounts are signed). The dev and support teams are also part of the core team that built the Algorand Blockchain which means you have the most up to date and official support possible.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Some upcoming features are greater multi-language support, dark-mode, additional backup offerings, and more granular account customization.
