Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I have been working as a developer for 13 years. I worked for many years with Node.js, Ionic, Angular, and Oracle. In the past years, I have been focused on React Native.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Keeping a great user experience, while making sure to ally features to performance.

Diego has been working with Rocket.Chat since 2017, about one year after the company started. He first started as a React Native Developer, then promoted to Lead Mobile Developer.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I would say Twitter and Instagram are the ones I enjoy using the most; therefore, they are the ones I also like the most.

How long have you been working on this app?

Since 2017.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Open and transparent communication. Our goal was to create a virtual workspace where people could talk and collaborate in real-time, regardless of the location and without the need for a notebook/desktop. The app works as a comprehensive solution for distributed and remote teams.

Besides, data ownership and privacy were also goals when building the app. A great example of this is giving users the ability to self-host the software on their own servers.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

As our app’s mission is to break communication barriers and siloed conversations, I think its innovation relies on providing the same features delivered by the market’s most popular apps alongside the benefit of being an independent and flexible app, with a customizable interface, white-label features. All while offering data ownership and security.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Event chain system, a11y, UX.
