DexWallet - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

I have 10+ years of experience as a UX UI and product designer. I have a good understanding of programming and its implications but I am not a coder myself. Aside from my responsibilities as a co-founder, I contributed to the product roadmap and strategic discussions, I designed the app and the brand for our products.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Mobile apps are always challenging, in particular, a multi-platform, financial one. In this case, a further level of complexity was represented by the ethereum blockchain infrastructure. Many concepts of web3 are radically different as compared to the more common web2 solutions. There's always a tradeoff between security and control, decentralization and performance and so on. While developing the app you always have to face this kind of choices and sometimes make some little compromise.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Uniswap, InstaDApp, Dharma Protocol, Spank Chain. I love them because they empower people by making services more accessible.

How long have you been working on this app?

We started the development of the mobile app one year ago. We released a feature-full iOS version and a beta for Android.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We want to empower all people in the world with a fairer, more inclusive and more independent financial system. We believe no-one should be left behind, regardless of age, gender, social status, beliefs or opinions. We imagine a future, in which each individual will have the economic freedom he/she deserves. A future with less worry and more financial control. To achieve this, we need to make our services 10 times more transparent, secure and easier in comparison to how they are today.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

The idea of DeFi (decentralized finance) is radically different from Fintech. Fintech is about building on mostly proprietary software. We are instead basing our app on top of an open infrastructure where transparency and democratic governance really matter. This means that we are building products that are censorship-resistant, more fair, more accessible, with better and transparent terms of service. In the old banking paradigm, only the bankers will benefit from the system. We are instead building a platform where everyone can have access and earn money with ease, without any special condition or license.

Another big thing that differentiates us from traditional financial products is the almost total absence of bureaucracy. Imagine how much paperwork you need in order to open a bank account, get a loan, invest or save your money. With DexWallet, operations like those ones are available at your fingertips and they take seconds, not days.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We're already working on easy access to CDP, saving accounts, spaces that are informal sub-accounts so people can manage their money in a smarter way. In the next future, we already planned Cypto-2-fiat off-ramp, crypto to IBAN (bank wire), tax & billing services, especially for pro users. Another work in progress is an integration with Dexpay (our xDAI-centric Point of Sale) to provide a better shopping experience (both on and offline).
