The Mindfulness App - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Not our founder but our developers that was part from the start had.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

It was in the beginning of the App-market back in 2011 so everything was like a new world.

The interview answers were arranged by Tekla Wannberg, the Marketing and Growth Manager at MindApps. Here's Martin Wikfalk, the Founder and CEO's story on how he founded the Mindfulness App:

"While teaching Mindfulness courses I noticed how difficult it was for the participants to remember to do the daily meditations included in the program. I gave all kinds of suggestions such as doing it when waking up, before eating or going to bed ⁠— but I was not so successful.

Then I came to think about a character in the Swedish cartoon series Bamse, the world’s strongest bear. His best friend is Shellman, an extremely wise tortoise who carries almost everything you can think of in his shell including a food-and-sleep-clock. This clock tells him exactly when to eat and when to sleep and Shellman never breaks his routines, even if it’s in the middle of an adventure.

So the idea came up to create a similar clock for Mindfulness. Besides offering an extensive number of meditations with world-renowned teachers, the app also includes a reminder function which can be activated on specific times and places. With the support of the app the practice is easily done in the midst of a busy life and easily tailored to meet your own daily schedule."

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

We love Duolingo, it is a great example of a successful gamification for learning.

How long have you been working on this app?

Since 2011.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

To help users become more mindful in their everyday life, for the benefit of them self, the ones around them and essentially the whole world. Help people stress less, sleep better, improve focus and their overall well-being.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Our app is very personalised. We have over 450 guided meditations and courses from experts around the world, we have options for every mood, time of the day and for everyone from beginners to experienced. Also available in 10 different languages.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?
