Moonai – Period Pain Relief - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

As the founder/CEO, no, I did not. I had some basic training through university, and then during quarantine, I've followed certifications from IBM but to get an overview and foundations.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

At first, without a co-founder with technical skills, it was to communicate a clear idea and follow a roadmap with the devs, which were initially an external agency. It was for sure the most challenging.

Then, it was to keep focus on priorities on our roadmap matching our user research, and not getting distracted by "nice to have" elements.

The interviewee, Laura-June ("LJ") Clarke is the CEO and co-founder of Moonai, a sound therapy app for women’s health and well-being. She has a MSc in Pharma and a background in business engineering and entrepreneurship. She has over 10 years of experience in MusicTech and research on neurological music and creative technologies. She is a speaker and innovator in Sound Wellness and FemTech.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Endel: I am a big fan; their technology in music, AI, and science amazes me. They have pioneered the space of sound wellness.

The Pattern: not going to lie, I'm obsessed with their daily notification, personalized and constantly improving their UI and features at great speed.

How long have you been working on this app?

Since 2021.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Providing a digital, holistic, personalised, and hormonal-friendly solution for womxn's health.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Womxn focused, menstrual health-focused, and pain modulation focus.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

AI music generative and machine learning for sound match to user classification.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

Try it out, form your own opinion or share it to your love ones who suffer from menstrual pain (PMS, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, ...)
