Spell Sound Quiz for Dota 2 - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Before developing "Spell Sound Quiz for Dota 2" I learned and practiced coding through a year long course focusing on Android development. Also, I created several apps prior to this one, however, they are not finished projects or not presentable at the moment.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Since I am still new to Android development and programming in general, I encountered a number of challenging situations. Starting from choosing the correct assets, making the user-friendly interface, connecting all the elements in a well organised whole and, definitely, the biggest challenge was coding the logic of Invoker Mode.

My name is Daniel Stankovic and I come from Serbia. Right now I live in the capital city, Belgrade. In 2015, I achieved by Bachelor in Philology - Department of English Language and Literature - with honours. However, after finishing my studies I decided to completely change my career path and started experimenting with Android platform programming. Soon after that, I enrolled in a one-year-long course for Android programming and last year, November, I became a certified Android developer. From that moment on, I transformed some of my ideas into code, one of which is...as you know... on Google Play Store.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I am a big fan of games, especially the multiplayer types. The games I recently played a lot are: Bomberman Friends, Mortal Kombat X, Quiz Up etc. As for the non-gaming apps I prefer those that can make my life easier such as: Udemy, Shazam, Sticky Notes.

How long have you been working on this app?

For a long time, I was very curious how is it possible that this type of quiz does not exist. There were several Dota 2 quiz apps, but none of them dealt with sounds. When I learned how to use sounds and developed a logic for simple quiz game, I decided to combine those two together with one of my favorite games ever. So, back to the question, the initial stage was around 3 months ago, but the full production started one month ago.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Users should have fun and a way to kill time. As a Dota 2 player, I think that with this app you can test and show some of your game knowledge which can be really satisfying and fun.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

The biggest innovation is that this app is a sound quiz. All other apps are based on text or spelling, but here users use a completely different aspect, or sense, to play the game. Since there is not such an app on the Google Play Store currently, I strongly believe that this innovation can attract a big number of players.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

For the future, the plan is to develop a scoring system with rankings on the Leaderboard. Also, several new game modes are planned, one of which is the item sounds. Also, increasing the number of sounds in already existing modes is being planned in the near future (around 100 more new sounds). So stay tuned!

First of all I want to ask them to try the app and have fun with it. That is the sole point of the app. If they find it either interesting or not-so-much-fun they can leave a review and I will do my best to make it more appealing to their needs. Also, anybody can contact me through given email and if they have any suggestions for improving the game or making it more fun. I am open to all sorts of discussions and ideas.
