Soundworks - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Our head of engineering is a seasoned full stack software engineer with years of experience building website and apps.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

We decided to develop both iOS and Android apps at the same time instead of focusing on one then the other. It's a tradeoff, especially given our high standards for UX and given that our app is music-centric. We wanted to make sure the playing experience is smooth and took into account native controls such as the headphone's play/pause buttons. The sound quality is highest in Soundworks compared to most apps that stream music to the general public.

Co-founder, CTO at Soundworks

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Sam Harris' Waking Up is a very high quality meditation app. Soundworks offers a different perspective, centered on the use of modern sounds.

How long have you been working on this app?

We started at the end of the year 2020. We released a beta version, collected feedback and released our current stable version in April 2021.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We know that people who learn how to meditate generally stop practicing after a certain time, because it's hard to keep a consistent habit. Soundworks offers a new way to get one's practice going again, by providing sounds that support an existing meditation practice, or help start with a different perspective in mind.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Soundworks offers a unique alternative to all the meditation apps that we know of, by focusing on modern, exclusive, electronic sounds crafted by professional artists of the underground music industry. We believe a lot of users will appreciate how it feels to meditate using those very special sounds. By being backed by scientific research on psycho-acoustics and neurology, we define ourselves in between science and art.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We're going to expand our catalogue of courses, extended sessions and conversations within the app. We're also going to add an offline mode for subscribers, in order to turn the phone in plane mode and disconnect entirely while meditating.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

Download Soundworks and give it a listen :)
