Sleep as Android ? Sleep cycle smart alarm - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I am programming since the age of 6.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

This app needs to work ~7 hours on your phone and collect sensor data about your sleep, record audio to find out if you are snoring, etc. This is an increasingly difficult task on Android as you can see here: https://dontkillmyapp.com/ . So the biggest challenge was to make the app service non-standard battery optimizations and app killing on various Android flavors.

Another challenge was the Sonar our unique contact-less sleep tracking technique which can sense your movement during sleep using ultrasonic signal emitted from the apps speaker by measuring its reflections using the mic of your phone.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Apart from my apps :), I like EraRead which is an excellent e-book reader app, and Klara weather app.

How long have you been working on this app?

10 years.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

First I wanted to help users optimize their sleep to boost their productivity, but over time I found out that the majority of people in the world sleep really badly thanks to all their artificial lights and technology and that the biggest task is not boosting productivity but to teach people to live a healthy lifestyle with enough quality sleep to boost their immunity and in fact make them live longer.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

This is the very first sleep tracking app on Android introduced in 2010 when no one knew anything about sleep tracking at home. It can measure your sleep in a contact-less way - no device attached using a radar (or Sonar) approach which is truly unique. This app can also measure your snoring and breath rates and point to severe respiratory issues. In addition it is an excellent alarm clock which features CAPCTHAs - small task which make you get out of bed on time without oversleeping.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

My main goal is to keep this app helping people and adjusted to every new version of Android.
