ShearShare – Salon Suite & Barbershop Booth Rental App - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Not at all. We are non-technical cofounders.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of developing ShearShare was not knowing where to start because no one had used tech to pioneer space to work for our industry before. When it came to coding a new mobile platform, the best thing we did was ask questions and eventually find our way to a third-party engineering firm that helped to build our MVP.

How long have you been working on this app?

We drew the first designs of the ShearShare app on a Chipotle restaurant napkin back in 2016. Our public beta went live in 2017!

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We wanted to give beauty and barbering pros the ability to rent professional space to work whenever, wherever, without signing a long-term contract or working by commission. And likewise, we wanted to give our fellow salon and barbershop owners an opportunity to monetize their empty stations and suites, because 40% of salon space goes unused every day.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We pioneered on-demand salon and barbershop space rentals. Before ShearShare, the only options for stylists to find professional space to work were (1) work by commission or (2) sign a long-term booth rental contract.

ShearShare aggregates labor in a specialized market and provides affordable B2B tools to the self-employed stylist, starting with space to work. We currently have the largest database of on-demand salon and barbershop space rentals and the most affordable leases in the market.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Rent by the day, week, month, or long term. Sell indie products through the virtual beauty supply store. Advertise your classes or hair tours to a captive audience.
