Personio - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

As a software company we are highly experienced in software development, however, the mobile app was our first mobile development project.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of developing our app was to ensure its data privacy was made to the highest standards. As an HR software company, it is incredibly important for us that the app is secure but also able to provide information in a simple and user-friendly format.

We make HR professionals real heroes by giving them more time to focus on what matters most: their employees. With our software, we digitalize and simplify time-consuming HR processes and help create time for strategic topics like talent development or employer branding. So far, we’ve freed 4,000 customers from administrative chaos, but that’s only the beginning. We believe there can never be too many HR heroes.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

At Personio we are passionate about using technology to enable our teams to work more effectively and collaboratively. As such, one of our favorite and most-used apps is Slack - not only is it simple to use, it also has a very intuitive interface and allows for collaboration on the go.

How long have you been working on this app?

We worked for around 8 months on the development of this app. Currently it’s available in 177 countries and over 17,000 users have installed the app.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

It was incredibly important for us that our app would enable companies to manage their HR processes on the go. Thanks to our app, employees have access to their digital personnel file at any time, wherever they are. Whether users want to photograph and upload sickness certificates via their smartphone, request annual leave regardless of location, or view and record absences, birthdays, and contact data of colleagues at any time of the day, Personio’s app allows its users to do so.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

At Personio we wanted to provide our customers with an innovative product which we felt was missing from the market - and for us, this meant creating an HR solution with enhanced flexibility. With the Personio app, everyone in an organization has access to the information they need from anywhere, even when working remotely. For us, the app is another step towards our goal of digitizing and simplifying people processes so HR can focus on the most valuable asset in the company: its people.

The app also enables HR teams to integrate employees into people processes more easily. Nowadays, employees expect digital services at work to be just as user-friendly and modern in their day-to-day work as those they use in their private lives. The intuitive user interface of the Personio app lives up to this expectation and ensures high employee satisfaction.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Currently we don’t have any plans for big changes, however, in the future, we’d like to successfully expand the app with additional features that further simplify the flow of HR processes in companies.
