The most difficult part is also what makes Naturespace unique… capturing the sounds of the natural world in spatially accurate 3-D sound. Recording thunderstorms and blizzards etc is not easy! Additionally, bears, snakes, alligators, wild dogs, angry cops, and strange people with shotguns making crystal meth in a hidden lab in the forest make our job dangerous and challenging. We actually began our recording in 2004, ahead of the iPhone. Naturespace was initially inspired by the iPod, which made headphones much more common. This inspired us to record specifically for headphones, which allows for an accurate sense of distance and position. Naturespace the app came out in early 2009.
Spatially accurate sound is more than simple entertainment, it is a therapeutic tool that is incredibly effective at easing anxiety, stress, PTSD, insomnia, and helps tremendously when working at the computer and maintaining focus. 3D sound is also just amazingly cool, many people have never heard sound reproduced in this way.
