I do have prior development and coding experience. I have personally been coding since I was 14 years old and it’s been a big passion of mine since then. I’ve made apps, websites, and even games since I started.
For me personally, the most challenging aspect was primarily creating a rich UI experience for my users as designing was never really my strongest skill. I went through multiple iterations and user testing sessions before I came up with the final release ready implementation.
A personal favourite app of mine is called Flipp. The app contains all store deals from flyers which are localized to your area. It has personally helped me save a ton of money on my weekly grocery bills. Reddit is also another favourite app of mine, as it allows you to discuss things and have conversations with complete strangers all around the world!
For Life’s Game, I have spent a total of 8 months building and testing the app. It took a while to build as I was balancing both University courses, and work life during the building process.
The biggest thing I had in mind when building the app was making sure it would truly help my users plan and execute their goals with constant feedback, motivation, as well as statistical data to help guide them to success. Furthermore, I wanted to make sure that when users went to my app it wouldn’t feel like a chore and would provide an enriching experience each time it is opened.
When building this app, a big goal of mine was to ensure that its users would get constant feedback and visualizations of their progress. This in turn led me to build the app with a vast number of statistical data in relation to the user’s progress. Additionally, I also combined Pomodoro techniques into the app such as a Pomodoro timer. My main objective is to ensure that all my users feel a sense of personal accomplishment every time they open and close the app to update their goals. This app within the first week got over 1000 downloads, and the amount of positive feedback I got for it really showed me its potential and is what keeps me motivated in updating the app every day.
A very key future plan of mine is to add in social aspects to the app. Functionality such as the ability to work towards or track the progress of friends and loved ones is something currently in the works. Additionally, the ability of users to create and maintain different discussion groups such as weight loss, dealing with depression, productivity, etc. is also another feature coming out in the social integration feature. Also, because statistical data is a key feature of this app, we will be expanding that feature to provide even more data for our users and their progress.
I encourage you to bring your family/friends to download this app also, and encourage them to work together towards different goals with you. It could be as small as washing the dishes or as big as losing weight. Also, if you truly enjoy using this app, I would really appreciate a review on the app store.
