Go Clubbing - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes. Part of the Go Clubbing’s team has more than 5 years of experience in software development.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Our goal has always been to create an easy-to-use app with a modern design that allows our users to: 1) Filter by the entrance fee, the type of music, the type of ambiance and the date. 2) Find bars and clubs in a list format or the map of the city. 3) Chat with other users, and find all the possible information about any bar or club. To combine all these features has been challenging, especially adding a live-chat and the system to rate and comment any of the bars and clubs that we display.

Co-founder of Go Clubbing, GmbH. His bachelor's degree in Economics, master's degree in International Business and Cultural Diplomacy and his 10 years of experience as a financial advisor have allowed him to develop and strengthen expertise in financial planning, both in the early stages of business (business plans for start-ups, mentoring for entrepreneurs, fundraising), and in the stages when a comprehensive business model restructuration is required (bankruptcy process, refinancing plans or employment regulation).

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

When we were designing our app, we searched for what others did. In this sense, we like the Netflix app and the Emmy app because they are very easy and simple to use.

How long have you been working on this app?

We had the idea in October 2016. During the first year, we collected all the information and prices of more than 400 bars and clubs from Barcelona, Berlin, and Madrid. In July 2017, we started with the development and design of the app and the intranet for the owners of the venues.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We wanted to create a product that's easy-to-use and that allows users to have all the information they want about bars and clubs in one place and where they can search for the best venues according to their preferences in the easiest way.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

There are 4 main features that differentiate us from similar apps on the market: 1) With 'Go Clubbing' you can search bars and clubs for their entrance fee, type of music and type of ambiance. 2) 'Go Clubbing' has more than 100 venues per city (much more than any other app that focuses on nightclubs and night bars). 3) The information that we provide for each bar or club is more complete than in other apps (we provide the following info: the entrance fee, the average price of drinks, the number of rooms and capacity of the venue, its ambiance and dress-code policy, whether they have outside or smoking areas, links to their Facebook page and website, and the opening/closing time for each day of the week). 4) Last but not least, in 'Go Clubbing' we believe in the power of a community, that’s why we added a chat section where users can ask, recommend, give tips…

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

As soon as we launched the app, we started to work on the next version of it which will include not only more cities, but also a section of recommendations according to the searches of the users and the possibility to buy tickets, add to guest lists of clubs and buy or order drinks.

First of all, if they are living in or planning to visit one of the major European cities and they want to have a drink, a cheeky dance or discover new amazing venues, they should download and share with their friends the 'Go Clubbing' app. Additionally, and more importantly, we love feedback, so they can send us their thoughts at [email protected]. After all, we created 'Go Clubbing' for everyone, so their feedback is very precious to us.
