Overcast - It does what it is supposed to do (listen to podcasts) really well and has just a clean and easy to use interface. I immediately swapped to using it full-time when I started trying it out and recommend it to anyone that I know that listens to podcasts.
PinPal - I bowl in a fun work league and started using this app after a recommendation from a friend. It has a very natural and quick interface while still providing a way to add really detailed stats and tracking for those that want it.
LastPass - This app is the reason that I pay for my LastPass membership. I love being able to have unique passwords and other protected information at my fingertips while still being done in a secure way.
We started development on the app at the beginning of 2017 and soft-launched it at the end of that year. We officially launched the app in March of 2018.
Our entire team is made up of tabletop gamers and we wanted to design a way for gamers to find events near them and create their own. We wanted to remove all of the roadblocks and bad experiences that we had experienced ourselves using other apps and websites.
I think that the way that GameFor sets itself from previous apps, websites and current competitors is that we designed GameFor from the ground up to be event-based, not user-based. What I mean by that is that we are not telling tabletop gamers, who are largely considered to be a fairly introverted group, that there are X gamers near them and to find a friend or two. We are showing them all of the places and events that they can go to in order to play games instead. This removes a lot of the social pressure of using our application and takes advantage of local stores, groups, clubs, and conventions that already do a good job of creating and running events and just help gamers to find them easier.
One of the main issues that we hear from users of the app is that there are places where users believe nobody else is using it. We are seeing these in areas that we know there are other users, however, people are not posting events, creating events or looking for player posts. So if there is an area where stores are not engaged and no one is willing to create anything in their area, it can look like the app is not being used in that area. We have been working for some time on a way to help show people that X amount of people have searched in your area and other feedback mechanisms to users while still making sure that we are not tracking users and requiring information added by users if they do not want it in the app. We feel that our solutions will give more visibility to our users about the level of activity that is occurring around them even when there might not be official interactions yet. We are also looking at adding by the end of this year some incentives for helping recruit others into the app so that we can grow even more rapidly than we are currently. We have heard from our users and feel ourselves that the value of the app increases as more people use the app.
We would love everyone to give it a try and to share it with their tabletop gaming community. Through their support, we can continue to make this platform grow and help everyone play more games!
