Hi! My name is Brian, and I am one of the team members for High There. I am a lead-level software designer, with over ten years of experience working on a wide variety of projects across a number of fields. High There has been my first venture into the cannabis industry and it has been a fascinating challenge transposing my experience to this growing market!
One of the biggest challenges any cannabis-focused company will face is discrimination against our topic of choice; despite cannabis use seeing some fashion of legalization (either medical or full recreational) in not only the United States but in many countries across the world, many advertising platforms, social media networks, banking companies, and vital services for e-commerce still do not allow for cannabis-themed content to be carried on their networks. Even just advertising your own company/platform can be difficult!
High There is a cannabis-focused platform where we provide a growing community access to news, information, and connections with others who are interested in cannabis use. Find us on the Google Play or Apple Store, or on the web at http://www.highthere.com
We've taken a lot of cues from apps such as Instagram, Bumble, LinkedIn, and other social media applications, and are constantly looking for new sources of inspiration from a wide variety of outlets. However, I'm a firm believer that gaming tends to lead and push technology, and as mobile gaming grows not only more popular but more powerful, I think we'll start to see some of the same high-tech sensibilities that modern games have in more social-focused applications. Titles like Fortnite, PUBG, and Genshin Impact show that mobile gaming can really push envelopes, and I believe that use of tech will eventually trickle down to social media as well.
I've been lucky enough to be with High There for the past three-and-a-half years now; I missed the app's initial development period, but have been onboard for several large design changes to the platform.
We wanted to create a space where cannabis enthusiasts — from the average, every-day citizen to influencers and even popular brands — could meet, learn, chat, and show off their shared passions. As mentioned above, cannabis use and discussion is often heavily discouraged — if not outright prohibited — on many other social platforms. We want to give people a place where they can express themselves and their unique perspectives on cannabis without the fear of having their accounts deleted — quite the opposite, we encourage it!
High There offers a unique community-first aspect to its design, aiming to help connect people who might otherwise not be able to find each other on more censorship-heavy platforms. We want to make sure our app remains friendly and accessible for all users, and greatly encourage people to share their thoughts, photos, and videos about how cannabis can have a positive effect on both their lives and their communities. While we have a bevy of news, how-to articles, and other great sources of information available, we feel like it's our passionate, friendly community that really makes us stand out!
We just finished releasing a major new version of the app (now with live chat!) that we hope our user base is enjoying! It's a bit early to say what the next steps for High There will be, but we have a number of things we've been working on in the background that we hope to show off soon!
If you like High There, the best way to support us is to use our app and share it with your friends! You can find High There on the Google Play or Apple Store, or visit us on the web at http://www.highthere.com/ - We and the High There fam hope to see you soon!
