Hailing from Melbourne, Australia but originally from Scotland, Moray has 20+ years as a professional developer. He started off in the banking sector in London, Asset management reporting mostly.
Moray found his calling early and wrote the first line of code at around 7 years old on an Acorn BBC computer.
One of the key focuses of our developers has been to move FulGaz onto a single code base to create a consistent app across all the platforms that FulGaz runs support.
It’s vital that the experience is the same across phones to Apple TV, to gaming PCs, weaving around the various problems that they have… For example, Windows is good at some things, bad at others, iOS is good at pretty much everything.
The interviewee, Stu Moysey, is the Head of Brand and Communications at FulGaz. The development of the app was looked over by Mr. Morey Taylor who has 20+ years of development experience under his belt.
The Founder of FulGaz, Mr. Mike Clucas, was born in the UK and ended up traveling the world racing a bike. He never quite made it to a top pro team or the Olympics but got close. As a Master athlete, he won medals on the road and track at State, National, and even the World Championship level.Settling in Australia in the ’90s, he went to university and studied Sport Science and Exercise Physiology.
The following decade was then devoted to coaching cyclists and triathletes; eventually setting up and up running the Victorian Institute of Sport Triathlon Program and working with the National Triathlon Team during the “golden years” of Australian Triathlon.
Through his time as a coach, his role gradually shifted from developing new coaching techniques to looking for money for the program. Eventually, he transferred these skills to the emerging world of software for the internet.
There then followed a period of overseeing the development of hundreds of websites and apps for other clients, until emerging technology trends and an accident on a dark, wet morning on Melbourne’s Beach Road combined to form the beginnings of FulGaz.
Fast forward a few years, and the team that built apps for other clients has been disbanded (a whole other story in itself) and FulGaz is a fast-growing, popular app with many thousands of users worldwide.
Personally, I love BBEdit on the Mac, it’s an old-school text editor first released almost 30 years ago, and still the best in my opinion.
I started working with Mike, the founder of FulGaz at the end of 2017, as a freelancing before coming on board as a full timer shortly afterwards.
In terms of the user, the founder, Mike Clucas, had himself in mind when he started the app. FulGaz development started in mid-2014 as a regular Friday “Hackathon” by the team working on apps for other clients the rest of the time. This basically consisted of Mike saying “No, riding a bike doesn’t feel like that” until eventually, it did feel just like riding outdoors.

FulGaz was created to be the most realistic indoor riding app on the market. We place such a high emphasis on the quality of the video and making sure the ride feel is ultra-realistic. We have super high standards for ride videos and we think that when riding inside, only the best will do.
We are working on a few things in the background with IRONMAN Group, but more on this in the coming months. We are looking to revolutionize the indoor training experience for triathletes and help them achieve their goals.
Readers can download the FulGaz app for free via the app store and use the promo code 17AOTD to get an extended 30-day free trial.
