Freedcamp - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

When I built the first version of the Freedcamp mobile app, I had no React Native experience. So the first few months were very difficult getting used to the platform. Had to re-write most of the app a few times.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Performance, especially on older Android devices, was a nightmare. With React Native, it is very easy to re-render huge lists many times, so I had to keep restructuring the code to minimize renders.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

1. Reminders are probably the most used app for me. I have ADHD and Dyslexia, and to make sure things don't split from my mind, I have to constantly speak to my Apple Watch to add reminders to go back and finish tasks I may forget.

How long have you been working on this app?

The last six years.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

To access the most critical information for him with the least effort. It's a mistake to try and recreate the entire web experience in the mobile app, so you have to narrow down the main functionality and make it even simpler on the phone.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Amount of functionality with the most optimal simplicity. Our notifications are the easiest to browse from any Project Management app.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We continue to bring more of the applications we offer in the Web Version to mobile. But I think in the near future, the main goal may be to try and re-simplify the app even further.
