Dragon Radar - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

I started as a software developer in 2006, in a company that provides software for universities. In 2011, this company created a mobile department, and I couldn't miss that opportunity. Since then, I have developed more than 10 applications as a freelancer, and I have led the development of many more apps in other companies, in the banking and education sector.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

To be honest, this application has been developed by itself. I'm a big fan of Dragon Ball and this is the application that, as a user, I've always wanted to have. Perhaps, the biggest challenge has been getting a good usability and user experience. After several tests, I think we've done a great job.

I'm from Barcelona and I'm the creator of 'Dragon Radar' and all the Ovil Solutions' apps. After 5 years of working in the mobile world I have acquired a lot of experience and solid knowledge for developing all kinds of Android mobile applications such as REST servers, and especially for applications with a large number of users and which require a higher level of security. Currently, I am the leader of a team of 12 people who are displaced to the offices of an important client in the banking sector, where I am in charge of the management, the leadership of the Android platform, and I advise the client on cross-cutting issues such as security and continuous improvement. I am a lover of good architectures that comply with SOLID principles and agile methodologies such as Scrum.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

It's fascinating how thorough the big apps like Twitter, LinkedIn and WhatsApp are able to be so intuitive, all the things are where you expect to find them. I like the Netflix app specially. I like Netflix as a streaming platform, and I like their app the most: its marvelous. It contains a lot of information, images, and videos, and its perfectly organized, always working optimally.

How long have you been working on this app?

It has been almost a year since the first moment when the app idea came up to the publication. 'Dragon Radar' is not a complex application, but in addition to the application development there is a lot of hidden work on the server, security and UX/UI.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

The original idea of 'Dragon Radar' was to help people discover new places and routes in their own city, or other cities as a tourist, in a fun and social way.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

As a Dragon Ball fan, I searched for an app like 'Dragon Radar', but it was all about themes, wallpapers, character lists or games. I found an interesting one, but it was very disappointing to see that balls were placed randomly on a fictitious map with poor resolution. 'Dragon Radar' is better than that! 'Dragon Radar' brings you the opportunity to connect with other Dragon Ball fans and to try to complete their challenges in an intuitive and fast application. At this moment, another similar application like mine doesn't exist.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

In the future, you'll be able to rate the other users' challenges and maybe post your feedback. I would also like to let the users create teams, so they can complete difficult challenges together.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

Just download the app and try it, you will love it. Look for challenges nearby and go find the balls with the radar. Tell your friends, and be the best by being the first to find all the balls!

Dragon Radar

About App: Join in the challenges you like. You can see the balls on the radar, but we'll not show you the map! Create your own dragon challenges by placing the 7 balls wherever you want: the most important monuments of your city, the best night route in your neighborhood or the most exotic beaches in the world. There are no limits! Follow your friends and accept the challenges they have created. Who will be the best? You will earn points for each ball you find, and you will earn many more by completing challenges. With Dragon Radar you will discover the world or places in your city that you didn't know. You could meet a new city or country by looking for the balls of the challenges created by others. Will you accept the challenge?
