Our charity (Action for Happiness) didn't have prior app development experience directly. This app was made possible by the team at Disciple Media who made their existing platform for community apps available for us to use.
One of the challenges has been how to handle people in different time zones - we haven't fully cracked this yet but we have a growing community of around 100,000 users from all around the world.
Action for Happiness is a movement of people committed to building a happier and more caring society. We want to see a fundamentally different way of life - where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others.
We use Headspace all the time for meditation and love the fact that it has some free content that anyone can use. They have also allowed us to give away thousands of Headspace subscriptions to people in need in local communities.
We launched it at the start of 2019 so it's just over a year old and the community has been really growing and thriving - it's so inspiring to see all the users supporting and helping each other in kind and encouraging ways.
Happiness sounds like a lofty goal, but it actually comes from the little actions we can take in our lives every day (but often forget to). This app nudges people every day to do little things that make a big difference.
Every day our users get a suggested action (start of the day) and inspiring idea (end of the day) to nudge them to improve their wellbeing. It's that simple - but it works and people really appreciate the clarity and focus.
We will continue to enhance the features made available. And we will continue to provide helpful actions and new inspiring ideas on a daily basis.
