VivaLive TV - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Prior to founding 'Viva', my experience was primarily in the music industry where I helped to launch the careers of several artists who went on to become major international superstars. As for coding, I have not done a whole lot of that, no.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The 'VivaLive TV' app is immensely complex and much of that complexity stems from the uniqueness of our middleware on the back-end of the house. Because of this, ensuring the integrity of all the various systems connecting the middleware to the app itself during and after updates has been a bit of a hassle.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Well, obviously my favorite is 'VivaLive TV', but I like the 'Yello' app, it's like 'Uber Eats' on steroids. It's in an early stage but I think it has a big future. I frequently use apps like 'Twitter', 'Instagram' & 'WhatsApp', primarily because of their ease of use and effectiveness in doing what they are intended to do.

How long have you been working on this app?

The concept of 'VivaLive TV' has been with me for a long, long time. But the actual work to begin realizing this dream began in 2012, and culminated with its public launch in mid 2016. And the improvements are always ongoing too. Case in point, we recently added the 'Sony Pictures' movie channel, coupled with an additional on-demand movie feature. We followed that up with the launch of our DVR capabilities that allows subscribers to record up to 100 programs. Both of these highly anticipated features are examples of our drive to constantly improve the app for our customers.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

In addition to simply being a viable, cost-effective alternative to cable and broadband television, we really wanted to ensure the app was easy to navigate and very user-friendly. I feel that we've accomplished this goal.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

'VivaLive TV' is the only live TV app that truly delivers a comparable experience to that of cable TV. It starts with the channel guide that was purposefully designed to resemble the 'classic' channel menu found in most cable packages. Therefore when people make the transition from cable TV to this app, it's almost like they are not missing anything, including our channel lineup which we will continue to improve. 'VivaLive TV' also contains hundreds of independent and international channels from Latin America and around the world.

Customers are looking for viable alternatives to cable TV and we intend to be the ones to change that. We decided to sign a deal with one of the cable companies. This includes the addition of 'Sony Pictures' movies and DVR, and subscriptions for two devices for just $35 per month. Users can increase that to five devices for just $10 more per month, meaning you can stream 'VivaLive TV' from your TV at home on a Roku, any 'Amazon' device, or take it with you on your cellphone or tablet.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We have a lot of new features slated to arrive in 2019. In addition to adding more sports networks and local channels, we are also planning to increase the on-demand offerings and implement new social media and gaming features.

People really ought to just try out the 'VivaLive TV' app. While the full service does cost $35 per month, there are a number of free channels that users can stream. I'm confident that once people see the quality of the streams and begin to understand the value here, they will be happy to cut the cord from their cable provider and make the switch to this app. Besides, with no contracts, there are really very little downsides.
