Vector Express - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

We have developed web applications in React and Node.js before, but this is our first foray into native mobile apps.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The learning curve of native Android and iOS developing was quite steep. Solving Xcode and Android Studio compiler errors was definitely the biggest challenge!

Smidyo is a Finnish smart manufacturing technology. We are developing technologies that allow manufacturing companies to streamline their job quotation process. We just now also got into the app business.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

One of my favourite apps (and this might sound boring), is the Finnish bank Osuuspankki’s app. It just works, and it used to be way ahead of other banks' apps. Other than that, probably Whatsapp and Messenger. Don’t know what I’d do without those.

How long have you been working on this app?

We have been working on the back-end technology for almost a year now, but the app was done in a couple of months.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Opening vector drawings on the phone has always been a pain! You always had to install many different apps for every file. Our app takes almost any file and allows you to open them up.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Vector Express is the all-in-one solution to open vector files with. As I mentioned in the last question, it eliminates the need to install an app for every file extension.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We are working on making the pro version able to handle up to 30 MB vector files (instead of 10 MB in the regular version).
