I already did other apps such as a loudspeaker design software but mainly for desktops. Treadmill Speed Transmitter was one of my first mobile applications.
We are using advanced hardware functionalities with Bluetooth and at the beginning, there was not a lot of documentation about it and we did a lot of trials and errors. Even today with Android, we need to test our app on a lot of different devices in order to ensure good compatibility.
I did my Masters of Science in applied mathematics and digital signal processing in 2008. Then I worked in the gas industry but continued with a project of a loudspeaker design application. Between 2010 and2017, I did some races with the bike for fun but it gave me the idea to start developing indoor training applications on mobile in 2015.
Strava: it gives me motivations and allows me to train seriously
nRF Connect: a very popular tool for working with Bluetooth Low Energy
Trello: in order to manage my todo list and to be sure I don’t forget anything
DS Audio: to listen to music with my Synology NAS
Arcade Fitness: a virtual cycling and running application that works with Speed Transmitter
We started 3 years ago, although we are developing different apps in parallel.
A lot of treadmills are not smart and cannot be used together with virtual running applications. We wanted to give everyone access to online training and racing apps to give them motivation during winter.
Treadmill Speed Transmitter is the only app on the market that allows people to use their Garmin watch with virtual training apps. We have a good understanding of Bluetooth Low Energy and ANT+ communication protocols and this is why our app is compatible with a wide range of sensors and watches.
We will listen to suggestions from our customers and implement them but we have no big feature under development at this time. In the short term, we are focused on HR2VP which targets all athletes and not only runners. We established a good relationship between heart rate and training power.
Share the app with your friends, it will allow you to train online all together which is even more interesting nowadays with covid19 lockdown.
About App:
Use your phone as a sensor while running on a treadmill for Zwift or Arcade Fitness
Broadcast speed and heart rate (with Garmin watches) over Bluetooth Low Energy
Manual Mode
⭐️ Set the speed manually by pressing on-screen buttons.
⭐️ A custom button allows you to enter your own speed value which can be great for HIIT.
⭐️ No calibration or measurement issue.
⭐️ Speed is recorded very precisely.
Auto Mode
⭐️ Put your phone in an armband
⭐️ Or take it in your hand
⭐️ Running speed will be computed automatically
⭐️ Adjust running speed by setting up step length parameter (we advise you to do this when you are running around 10km/h)
With ANT+ Footpod
⭐️ Bridge ANT+ footpod into Bluetooth Smart sensor with Running Speed and Cadence feature
⭐️ Requires ANT+ native smartphone or ANT+ USB stick
With Garmin watch
⭐️ Use your Garmin watch with its integrated accelerometer
⭐️ Broadcast heart rate from optical Garmin watch sensor to Zwift over BLE
⭐️ In case you get an exclamation mark when starting the watch app, please reboot the watch, start the watch app alone.
If you get the same, this means that your watch is probably not compatible with our watch app. In this case we advise you to use the manual mode.
? Important to read with Zwift ?
⭐️ If you start and your avatar doesn't move or if you get disconnected regularly this is probably because you are using the Bluetooth direct connection which is selected by default with Zwift on Windows.
⭐️ In this case, you need to connect through Zwift Companion app on a separate phone
⭐️ If you get multiple 'Speed T', this is because Zwift connects to your device in order to know if running speed is available and the virtual address of your phone changes for privacy reasons. This address change is implemented by device manufacturers and cannot be avoided by developers since it is linked to 'privacy and security'. Don't worry, your phone still has only one address but since it has changed, it appears in Zwift as a new device.
⭐️ We regularly update the help page and strongly advise you to read it carefully when trying to connect Speed Transmitter to Zwift: https://bipr.fr/treadmill-speed-transmitter
The app is free for 8 minutes workouts, if you want to do longer exercises, you will have to buy the full version.
