Sumizeit - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I graduated from Harvard University, and previously spent 5 years developing for various startups.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

We did not have a designer at the beginning; I had to implement and design. That was hard. Making sure the UI makes sense for users is also hard. Now that we have a designer, it's much easier, but this requires testing.

Kate graduated from Harvard University and previously started and sold 2 startups, one of which raised 100mil dollars from top venture capital firms. She works as a software engineering lead for Sumizeit. Her goal is to make knowledge more accessible to all. She currently lives in Miami. She enjoys traveling the world with friends and cooking.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Canva and Adobe Spark are two of my favorite apps. I use it to design all sorts of graphics to put in our emails and website.

How long have you been working on this app?

Over a year and a half.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We want to improve users' personal and professional lives by making knowledge more accessible. Sumizeit provides 10-15 minute book summaries that can be read, listened to, or watched anywhere, anytime on mobile or desktop. Get up to speed with your favorite books on the go, while commuting, while doing housework, and while exercising. We also offer short and comprehensive audio and video courses that teach you about various topics. For example, become a marketing expert by taking our Marketing Fundamentals course.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We've introduced the concept of learning paths, which is a combination of courses and book summaries in three different formats - written, audio, and video. With Sumizeit, you can learn in multiple ways. You can complete a course or read the book summaries of the over 1000 bestselling books on our platform. Moreover, we're the first to provide video summaries, which are very entertaining and fun to learn from.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We add features based on analytics and feedback from users. Right now, we're working on improving our app's gamification feature to encourage users to learn more.
