Splashtop Business – Remote Desktop - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I had worked as Linux developer for 5 years, and now I’m working as Android developer for 5 years.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Splashtop Business is client app of Splashtop’s award winning remote access and remote support product, the product supports remoting into Windows, Mac, Android, even iOS with HD quality. So, the challenging aspects of developing this mobile app are how to make sure the fluidness of the remote experience with extra low latency, and also robustness. We leverage as much as possible of Android’s NDK and SDK to build up such capabilities.

Kevin has more than 10 years’ experience as software developer, he’s good at Linux development, Android development, Java and C/C++ programming. Kevin works in Splashtop leading the Splashtop Business development.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Beside Splashtop Apps, my best favorite App is Evernote, it really helped me quickly and effectively to organize my ideas and daily schedule. It has a very simple and friendly interface to use where I can edit daily text, images, photos, videos, voices or even clip the web articles as note. It's also great to be able to share all the notes with a work group. All the data is safe in the cloud and can sync-up with multi devices.

How long have you been working on this app?

We have been working on this app for almost four years now, recently, we’ve just done a major update to adopt Android’s modern design language, new look and feel, also keep introducing new features into the app requested by our customers.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

With the combination of legacy Internet like PC era and the mobile Internet, it has been always a strong demand by the users to be able to access their working PCs or remote supporting the working PCs from the mobile devices.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We always regard the ease of use, HD quality, low latency, and robustness as the top priorities of the app. We still have room to improve it, but we are getting better and better, the app’s average rating is higher than 4.2 and recent updates even got average 4.6 on Play Store.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

As a remote access/support app, we will have new features coming as file transfer, chat, remote command, etc. We are actively working on them.

We always love to hear feedbacks from our customers, like the Play Store reviews, support tickets, etc. With them, we know what we did right or wrong. We would like to know from new users especially on how this app is easy to use, and where we can improve.
