Being a teacher, I didn't have any prior coding experience. We were fortunate to work with a brilliant developer company who also had young children at the time and shared our vision.
Many of our targeted users at that time didn't use apps for learning and didn't have access to the technology in their classrooms, we had to adapt to our user's needs by creating a website to play our games to go alongside our app.
"I remember when I first thought of the idea of creating 'the ultimate learn to read resource for the classroom', other teachers thought I was crazy! “Nice idea Soph, but leave that to the experts...” That really bugged me though, we are the experts! We are the ones using these resources day in, day out in our classrooms, we know how the classroom dynamic works, what resources our students like to use, we should be the ones designing and making them...
And so I set about dreaming up the perfect learn to read resource..."
The interviewee chose not to answer this question.
We have been working on the app now for over 7 years, with constant development and feedback from teachers in the classroom to make to read as easy and fun as possible.
I came up with the idea of Read with Phonics while in my first year of primary school teaching in the UK, I was under a lot of stress to meet targets and deadlines and saw something I needed but wasn't available for me to use. I wanted to create an app that was easy to use for teachers and parents alike and that used the same methods of teaching children to read that I was currently using in my classroom.
Our app using techniques and teaching methods used in the classroom today. We make sure that each word is sounded out and blended back together and our app takes a user from learning simple sounds to being able to read whole words.
We are planning on introducing some very exciting new features over the next year, working on the feedback that we have received from teachers and parents.
We love to hear what you think of Read with Phonics, contact us with any feedback and ideas you may have to improve your reading experience. We also love hearing how your children enjoy Read with Phonics!
