Probuild (App for Contractors) - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

At the time that we launched our company in 2016, we had each spent several years developing mobile apps for other clients; however, Probuild is the first mobile app that we’ve designed and developed entirely in-house, and remains our flagship product.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

When we founded Probuild, we wanted to develop a mobile app that meets the unique needs of small contracting businesses. We wanted to provide our users with an app that delivers all of the core features they need to run a successful service-based business but in a single mobile platform. Our users are amazing and have provided us with invaluable feedback over the years, and we’ve worked hard to incorporate that feedback into the app. The challenge is prioritizing which of those features are most important to our users’ success, and incorporating changes in a way that maintains ease of use and functionality.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

We regularly use Slack to stay connected and organized as a team. We like its simplicity and functionality. The app works well, without trying to be more than it needs to.

How long have you been working on this app?

We founded our company in 2016 and first released the app under the name of BareTeam that same year. We renamed the app Probuild in 2018.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We wanted to provide small contracting and skilled trade businesses with an affordable mobile application that helps them successfully manage their day-to-day operations from the field. We already offer the app on both Android and iOS, and we’re now actively beta testing a web-based portal that’ll complement the mobile app. Beyond that, we’re always looking for ways to improve and refine the app or add new features based on user needs.
