Pipeliner CRM - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, in other technologies but not in mobile environments. I was a former developer of the Pipeliner CRM Hybrid (desktop) application.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

It’s a sales enablement CRM application and our main objective was to deliver an experience that is as visual as possible. The main challenges were ease-of-use with a fresh feel to the interface while at the same time providing the necessary level of information and functionality.

Nikolaus Kimla is the CEO and founder of Pipelinersales Inc. and uptime ITechnologies, which he founded in 1994 and which has since played a significant role in the development of the IT-environment.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I liked the previous version of MiFit, it had a nice component to play. I think that playful components are something that people love, even though you have to work most of the day, it doesn’t mean that you cannot play and have fun 

How long have you been working on this app?

It took our team of 6 people about 6 months to put together the first version. Some of us knew “how” and some of us knew “what”. I was mainly working with backend functionality as I knew the most about the product from my previous experience. It then took another year to create what we believe is the best CRM mobile application in the world!No other CRM application has a mobile appthat has a gaming element, is user friendly and still has full coverage of all the web app functionalities. We’recontinuing to enhance it, although not with the same speed as in the beginning.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Our goals were to make sure the app is always self-explanatory, uses standard components so it’s consistent throughout but at the same time is fresh and playful to help encourage use among remote sales users!

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Full coverage of web app core functionality together with offline use and full background synchronization. Self-explanatory, standard visuals, eye-candy graphics, easy to use and lots of little things to help our customers.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

Mobile is different from the web app and we have the core functionality covered. We are now focusing more on using the specifics that the mobile phone is giving us – this is mainly the advantages of the camera (document scanning, taking visit cards, optical character recognition), using the calling and contacts, using the current location and more.
