Mapapers - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes! I've always been an Android guy. I started hacking on my Nexus S about 7 years ago. Since then, I enjoyed learning about Android more and more until I started to learn about development. In 2013/2014 I created the Hazy project, a custom ROM built on AOSP. We were about 5 people in the team and our philosophy was building something simple but at the same time with a beautiful UI. I left the team about 2 years ago to become an app developer and learn more about the web development. I created several apps, but one of the most important experience I had was working with a startup called "AnyPark". With it, I could learn a lot about how a startup works. I left it about less then a year ago. At the moment I am working on a lot of projects, and one of them will be released soon!

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Well, when you start developing apps, improving performance could be one of the hardest parts. You always have to deal with Threads and try to make your layouts as simple as possible.

I'm Matteo Lobello, an 18 years old mobile and web developer from Rome, Italy.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I don't have many apps as favourites, but I love an app called "Myki", a simple password manager that doesn't store data in the cloud. My favourite social networking is Google+, but recently Twitter got my attention too (better late than never I guess).

How long have you been working on this app?

Gabriel Zegarra (the designer) and I have started working on Mapapers about 3 months ago.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

I think the only need is to let users create a custom themed map with 3 taps.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Mapapers is a unique app. You can't find an app like ours on the Play Store. There are a lot of apps for wallpapers but none of these creates custom colored maps of a location.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We plan to add more styles soon!
