Live Colors - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, 5 years of experience in the field. I started to work on the 'Live Colors' projects as a middle iOS developer.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of developing this mobile app was achieving the right speed of the drawing line. Finger painting on the iPad 2 was lagging so we decided to switch between CoreGraphics to GL to achieve an acceptable speed.

I like apps where you learn and not just waste your time. So on the list of my favourite apps I have '1K - English dictionary', 'GON' and 'Live Colors'.

How long have you been working on this app?

The basis of the application took just over a year. Then there was a short period of improvements and fixes, and now we are maintaining the app and updating it with more content and features.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

The need for kids' safety. Only good content is available within the app. “Live Colors” is a safe app that can occupy your kid with your full trust to the gadget. We were also considering kids' engagements that will lead to learning interest. The app develops your kids' drawing skills, improves fine motor skills and coordination.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We have to admit that during the life of "Live Colors", the list of competitors grew. However, not all applications have an internal voice assistant that tells the story about coloring objects - this makes the drawing process interesting and informative. In our application, there are no ad inserts, so that the kid is not distracted and does not lose interest. We try to give a kid an opportunity to feel like a young artist and take small steps to the world of art. Also we have app functionality that no other app has - mixing colors. Almost all competitors are trying to give as many colors as possible, and our coloring only gives basic colors so that the child learns to mix them. We also have pictures that are convenient for coloring with kids' fingers.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We are planning to change the content and the application system itself. To make it modern and useful for kids. There is an idea of creating something of a multi-level, like the “Photoshop for kids” academy that develops drawing skills. Meaning a complete redesign and style change.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

We usually ask users for their feedback. Now we are thinking about a complete change in the work and design of “Live Colors”. It is important for us to know what kids and their parents want to see in the coloring app and what benefits we can bring to users. We would ask new users for their suggestions on this aspect. As for the “potential” users who are reading this now, never hesitate to write and leave feedback to us either on the app store pages or via our support by email - we respond quickly and answer all of the questions and suggestions that arise.
