Keep Receipt - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

No, I did not have any coding experience prior to creating this app. After five years of working as Apple Certified iOS and Mac Technician at Apple Authorized Service Provider, I have decided to focus on and pursue a new passion which is iOS Development. I started learning Swift programming language by my self at the end of 2018.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Since I have just started learning to program by myself with no prior experience at all in that field, there were numerous challenges along the road. I was constantly questioning myself if I'm making good enough progress. There were no other people around me who are iOS developers, so I didn't have anybody to ask for help. Which was probably a good thing, because you really learn a lot by finding the answers for the problems on the internet, filtering that information and trial and error approach. The challenging part of bringing the idea to App store was also learning a lot of other tools, especially regarding design. Keep Receipt awaits several improvements, some of which are beyond my current level of knowledge, but for sure are achievable. At the same time, some new ideas are already in development.

Recently, he released his first app on App Store called Keep Receipt, as a response to a challenge of keeping purchase slips well organized and safe.
That was the reason he started learning Swift programming language at the end of 2018.
Keep receipt awaits several improvements, some of which are beyond his current level of knowledge, but for sure are achievable. At the same time, some new ideas are already in development.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

WhatsApp, Snapseed, Duolingo, Moovit, Algorithms, GuitarTuna - I use all of them almost every day!

How long have you been working on this app?

I have been working on this app for the last 4 months.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

This app was created as a response to the challenge of keeping purchase slips well organized and safe. Keep Receipt lets you get rid of boxes full of disorganized and fading receipts while saving you a ton of time when it comes to searching for a particular receipt. This app allows you to claim the warranty even if you lose the original paper receipt, and we all had this problem at one point.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

The app is very simple to use and intuitive. Receipts are automatically stored in the cloud which keeps them secure and accessible from different devices. If the user upgrades to a new iPhone/iPad, he just needs to log in to his account, and everything is there. We spent a lot of time thinking about the design of the app, and we ended up with minimalistic but at the same time very colorful and fun UI. The search tool is very powerful in this app. You can filter the receipts by category, name, or both. The app also notifies you of expiring warranties. The best thing is that it was made as a labor of love, so there are no ads at all and the app is completely free!

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

I am working on implementing OCR technology, Image editing (especially cropping), localization for certain non-English speaking countries with a large number of users, and adding some features like expense tracking and reports.
