My previous coding experience was limited to barely enough Matlab to pass my first-year university exam and some very basic Visual Basic. When I first had the idea for 'HireRight' I planned to learn enough code to do it myself. I soon realized how ambitious this was as it would involve various coding languages and what I thought would be a basic app, actually turned out to be far more complex. I decided that if I ever wanted to get it off the ground, I would have to call in the big guns.
The most challenging aspect is knowing when to stop adding features. You are trying to develop an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) so that you can validate the idea, but you keep thinking of new features. Eventually you have to force yourself to say no more or you will never release it!
Daniel Hyde is a civil engineer who has worked in construction project management since he was an undergraduate. He has worked with tier one construction firms on large scale, iconic infrastructure projects throughout Australia. During this time, he began to recognise opportunities for greater efficiency in construction through smart systems. His interest in efficient construction and technology led to further research in these areas and ultimately the establishment of LeanTech Construction with the aim of turning ideas into reality. 'HireRight' is the first system out of several ideas that LeanTech Construction has developed to improve time and cost efficiency in projects while easing the burden on an increasingly overstretched workforce.
Evernote - I love it for keeping track of all my ideas and knowing they are secure. Being able to access them on all devices is great. Focus To-Do - Pomodoro technique app where you can attribute 25 minute blocks of your time to different tasks. It keeps me focused throughout the day. CastBox - listening to podcasts at various speeds. Free and simple.
I began thinking about the idea years ago but only started getting prices to develop it in October 2017. After further discussions, an agreement was executed, and development started at the beginning of 2018. There has been approximately six months of development for the first release.
Most people who hire items for construction do not record any information about them. Some write the details in a diary and some use a spreadsheet. Often the items do not get sent back once they are no longer in use. Generally, a user knows roughly how long they will need something for but will often forget to, or not get around to sending it back when it is no longer in use. The process of sending an item back usually involves a phone call which can be brief or quite arduous.
There are currently no publicly available apps that do what 'HireRight' does. 'HireRight' is not limited to products from one company and so can be used to optimise hire rates across a range of companies. The HireRight automated email system eliminates the need for a phone call and simplifies the off-hire process. This can also be used to hire new gear or rehire an item that you had in the past. The app and website allow review of all current and past items for easy verification of invoices. I believe that the inefficient use of hire gear is an often overlooked drain on project costs. 'HireRight' is a basic concept, but I truly believe that the savings in time and cost will be significant.
- Company/Project profiles. Different users from the same team will be able to access the same list of items. - Consolidating all rates for items from different companies. Easily find which company has the best rate for a specific item. - Analysis for when to hire or purchase an item. - Improved UI for simplified item input and further automation additions. - And more...but those are top secret!
I would love anyone in the construction industry to give 'HireRight 'a go. If it is not something that they would use, then share it with anyone who would benefit from it. The time and cost saving benefits will be significant! For more information you can see our website. Contact me on [email protected]. I have also posted on LinkedIn about the benefits of HireRight: here. For a detailed look at the HireRight app and how to use it effectively: here.
About App: Stop wasting money on unused hire items! Download HireRight now to save time and money on your construction project. HireRight provides efficient cloud management of all construction site hire resources. Receive reminders when you expect to be finished with a resource. Easy hire and off-hire via email and call. With a click of a button you will be able to email the hire company to advise them to pick up an item. You will also be able to duplicate a previous item and then email the supplier the information to hire a new item. Customisable emails with automatically filled fields will be sent through your personal email server on your mobile. It is an common experience in the industry for an item to be hired, used and then left sitting idle on site for days, weeks or even months! This can be very costly and is often a by-product of the increasingly large workload of junior engineers. HireRight aims to reduce losses on hire items while minimising the time it takes to achieve this. Construction engineers and supervisors will be able to track and manage hire resources while on site instead of waiting to get back to the office. If you lease, rent or hire items for your construction project then you will benefit from the efficiency features of the HireRight application.
