Before launching g33kdating, I was managing several free2play MMORPGs, from client-based games to mobile games. I am not a developer myself, but working closely with the development department is second nature to me. However, g33kdating was the first dating app I have worked on.
The compatibility, synchronization, and smooth transfer of all data on the various platforms. G33kdating is available as an Android app, iOS app, Website, and even Web app, which gives you the full app experience by just using your mobile browser. Making sure it works on all these devices is an ongoing challenge!
Geek HQThe interviewee, Matthias Fellinger, is the CEO of Geek HQ, the parent company of g33kdatin. Founded in 2015 in Berlin, Geek HQ accepted the quest to finally provide a true and authentic dating site for geeks and nerds all over the world. At g33kdating, there will be no fake profiles, no annoying subscriptions, and only wonderful geeks like yourself.
Since childhood, I love to look up to the stars, so the Sky Map app is amazing for me since I can finally identify star constellations and planets by just pointing my phone to the sky. I recently switched to the Signal messaging app and love the simplicity of it, I really don't need anything more than this.
We launched the g33kdating website back in 2015. And in 2016, the apps entered the market. 2018 saw the birth of our "Progressive Web App“ and we are currently working on the next big update. It‘s been a wild ride for sure!
I worked in the gaming industry for almost 10 years before launching g33kdating. I always wondered why we have dating apps that are tailored for e.g. vegans or BBQ-lovers, but non for the gamer community. So I changed that.
During the process, I noticed I shouldn't focus only on a gamer dating app, since there are so many wonderful geeks and nerds out there. So the app got a bigger audience, by adding Anime- & Manga-Fans, Cosplayer, LARP, and all shades of geeks to our target group.
Turns out, it was the right decision and the g33kdating app has become the go-to app for all kinds of geeks and nerds.
We really wanted to give geeks and nerds a dating-app, that supports them so they can let their geek flag fly! As you can probably imagine, having „gaming“ or „cosplay“ as your favorite hobby is sometimes looked down upon on more traditional dating apps. So I am very happy to provide our service to our wonderful community. We even had several weddings of geeks that found each other on our app. Isn´t that wonderful?
Feature-wise, I really love the „WARP SPEED MATCH“ - which shows you the geeks in your area. So if you are e.g. at a nerd convention, you can immediately see other geeks attending, match with them, and meet right away for a cup of earl grey tea, hot.
We really like to concentrate our efforts on our main task - to find you the perfect geek match for you. So making sure g33kdating runs perfectly smooth on your device is our main concern. We see a lot of dating apps going the route of adding lots of fluff, like mini-games, social media features, and second-life-styled environments. We think this is distracting from our mission to find as many geeks as possible in your area. Having said that, there will be a new update soon which will improve the UI a lot and get rid of some annoying bugs.
Simply said: Give it a try. Finding the special someone who shares your love for gaming, animes, mangas or cosplay would make us really happy.

Browse geeky profiles, check pictures, send “hailing frequencies” and even answer messages for free. Most features are free. But hey, all this wörk wörk needs to be paid for somehow, right? So we do have credits and memberships - but don't worry, there are NO surprise renewals (we hate it foreveeeeer).
