FLIP – Focus Timer for Study - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Rinasoft Inc. has developed more than 30 apps, and currently supports UBhind; the smartphone usage manager, and FLIP; a self-learning manager. We are primarily developing utility apps that can motivate time management and self-development.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Visualizing the relationship between study time measurement and concentration in the planning stage, and making the app to continue time measurement without shutting down in the background in the developing stage.

Beginning with mobile application development, Rinasoft is pioneering smartphone usage pattern analysis and mobile data analysis using big data analysis technology. Based on Korea's largest user data, we are developing technology to solve the smartphone addiction problem that is becoming a social issue as well as data analysis that companies need.

How long have you been working on this app?

FLIP was first released in October, 2017, after three months of development. Since then, we have been continuously improving and upgrading the app.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

To help students manage their distractions and focus on what's important.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

Many people around the world are having a hard time concentrating on something for more than 20 minutes due to the increase in usage of smartphones, especially for students. We hope that smartphones can be used as the ultimate device for self-learning, not for time-killing. As in that point of view, we developed FLIP to provide accurate study time measurements by applying Pomodoro techniques, which allows realizing how well a person can focus. It also provides the detailed functions and motivations needed for the course of practical learning. We hope many can increase concentration and manage time effectively through FLIP.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We are planning to expand FLIP to be a platform that combines a self-learning tool and a place where people can communicate. As a first step, we are providing an online study group in Korea and will expand abroad like Japan and Brazil. People in Korea, Turkey, Brazil, India, and many others are using FLIP. We are planning to provide a connection between them to exchange information, or to compete with around the globe.
