I'm a non-technical and first-time founder, so developing this app was all very new to me. I did study computer science - but it was so long ago it was no longer useful :)
By design and intention, our app is very simple for the user. We wanted to create a light and simple experience that is also nourishing and meaningful enough to become a daily routine. Sometimes simple is more work than complex. It reminds me of this quote by the French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal: "I have made this letter longer than usual because I have not had time to make it shorter."
Amy has always believed that everyone belongs and that we need to see and hear each other. When she started to feel that we were becoming more "us vs them" and less "we're all in this together", she left behind her successful corporate career to found Daily Haloha, a simple daily routine to help us find our way back to each and build empathy.
To stay connected, Marco Polo - A fun way to see my family on video, asynchronously.
To be productive, Slack - I have developed new professional social networks here and the interface is pleasant
To stay sane, Insight Timer - Meditations that suit my needs and moods are easy to discover
To decompress, Words with Friends - It's a great diversion and I love words!
Since 2018.
We want our users (we call them participants) to feel better from using our app: More refreshed, more uplifted, more connected.
Loneliness is on the rise and empathy is on the decline. Social media, which preys on division and insecurity makes loneliness and the empathy gap worse. People are feeling disconnected, and we humans are wired to connect. Our wellbeing depends on it. We want our participants to discover themselves and be reminded that they are part of a bigger human story.
Our app offers a daily routine of self-reflection and sharing based on one thought-provoking question to the whole world each day. There is nothing else on the market quite like it. If Facebook and Headspace had an adorable baby app it would be Daily Haloha.
We are guided by our principles: Everyone is anonymous. There is no judgment. And there is no status. Everyone matters and everyone belongs. This means that people can reflect freely and express themselves authentically. People send stickers to each other to offer support, encouragement, and validation - but there is no leader board or scorekeeping. It's a place to gain insight and perspective and feel more positive.
I'm most proud of what one participant wrote in a review: "I feel more genuine affection for humanity".
We are busy working on extending our platform so that communities can have private "channels" in the app to foster a greater sense of belonging and closeness among their members. A community could be a company, a membership organization, an association, a school, or even a town. I love that we're fostering empathy and connection around the world, but I'm also really excited to make our daily ritual available in this more intimate way because people need more connection right where they live, work, and study.
Try the app, and if it makes you smile inside, please please please share it! It's free and ad-free, because we think your attention is precious.
I also love talking about our mission and am open to podcasts and interviews.
About App:
Daily Haloha is a simple daily routine to help you feel a little more connected to yourself and the rest of humanity.
It starts with one thought-provoking fill-in-the-blank daily question for us all. Just fill in the blanks with "you." Then see how the rest of the world responds! It's a chance to be inspired, uplifted, and encourage positive thinking.
There’s no judgment here. It’s all anonymous. Just a chance to come together for a shared human moment of self-reflection and daily journaling.
WHAT’S A HALOHA?
A Haloha is a simple, thought-provoking question that gives us an opportunity for daily reflection, positivity, and creativity.
Here are a few examples :
• If I had the courage, I would ____________________________
• If my body could talk, it would tell me ___________________
• You would never guess by looking at me that ___________
• I want to be remembered for ____________________________
• My theme song should be _______________________________
HOW IT WORKS
1. Daily Haloha starts with you
Take a moment for yourself, each day, to consider the question. A mindful moment of self-reflection.
Remember, you only answer the day’s Haloha question once, so make it count! A Haloha is a chance to truly be yourself and share thoughts honestly because Halohas are anonymous and free of judgment. Once you fill in the blanks, select a Mood color that best fits your Haloha. And then you’re ready to offer your personal Haloha to the rest of the world!
2. Pay it forward
When you send your Haloha, it's randomly and anonymously delivered to another person somewhere in the world – and instantly you’ll get a Haloha back from another thoughtful and curious person. You can even see where in the world that Haloha came from. Then you can select a Response sticker to let the sender know they were heard!
Be a part of the bigger picture
All the Halohas from the day are posted on the Haloha Wall so you can see what the world is thinking and feeling about the day’s question. It's a "journal of us". You can save any Haloha to your personal scrapbook, and also share them out to any of your social or personal channels. Remember to check the countdown clock to see when a new daily question will be available!
This simple daily journaling routine is a moment of self-reflection, connection, & gratitude to fuel and nourish your day. We love sharing thoughts with curious minds and compassionate hearts all over the world and would love you to join us!
