Choppa - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, when we shipped this game, we had been running our own game studio for 1.5 years. So this was the second game from Parta Games. We had, of course, shipped hobby projects and been working as programmers for several years in other industries and the game industry.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The biggest challenge was we were running out of money. Our first game did not do well at all, so we were in a real hurry to launch another. Gladly it took off and saved the company.

Parta Games was founded in 2015 by Antti Kolehmainen and Ville Herranen after both of them left their respective and respectable day jobs. They're childhood friends sharing the love and a similar vision for video games and have been dreaming of doing this for a living since the last century (Has it been that long..?) They were building Go! Go! Meatball from the ground up a couple of years while having day jobs and conquered innumerable life difficulties and the harsh reality of creating a complete video game product. Finally - after all kinds of hurdles and blessings - they were ready to take the leap and start up the company!

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

My personal favorite apps are audiobook and podcast apps, but for mobile games, I’d say my current favorite is What The Golf from Apple Arcade.

How long have you been working on this app?

Currently we’re not planning content updates soon, as we are busy making a sequel. The original game was made in 5 months and we shipped several small content updates during a 2-year period, until we started developing a sequel.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We just wanted to make a fun game with a unique twist. We are hoping many people will get to enjoy it and have fun 

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

I don’t think any game has nailed the physics and the ladder mechanic in quite the same way. I’d say Choppa is still a pretty unique game when you find it from the store. We are proud of it!

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

A multiplayer sequel to the game is in the works, please wait for it 
