Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes. Extensive experience in mobile from midlets on blackberry phone through hybrid apps and native apps. Also backend and DevOps experience.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Not so much the technology. The hard thing is making the app popular. And ensuring enough users use the app while not making a loss.

The interview was answered by the Founder of Impulz Technologies - an indie software development company started by a solo entrepreneur. Mostly built in his spare time, just for fun. The first big hit was 3DWeapons, an Android augmented reality shooter that reached 1.5 million downloads.

The prank-calling app Boomrang was created for fun too, and is now reaching over 200.000 downloads.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Google Maps is my all-time favorite. It’s so super useful and really makes sense on a phone. Next to that I like Signal, the encrypted messaging app.

How long have you been working on this app?

Started 4 years ago as a hobby, just for fun. But in the last 2 years it really started growing. However I hardly spend any time on it these days.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Enjoying life basically. Having a bit of a laugh in an innovative and surprising way.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

There are a few lower quality prank call apps out there but also some good ones. I like to think my app fits into the good ones category. I tried to keep the app ui simple. And the pranks in my app use artificial intelligence to reply to the calling side. Which is a better and more fun experience.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

I do not have an big future plans. However expanding it to more languages and territories is probably a logical next step.

Try the app and come up with new prank call ideas. You can sent ideas via the app. If you could record fun prank calls that would even be better!
