Beast Fitness and Gym Planner - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Prior to Beast Workout, I created another iOS fitness app called Boxing Coach. I love to create and design products, therefore I started to learn iOS programming a few years ago. I received so much positive feedback from users around the world for Boxing Coach that I continued to learn until I was up for the challenge to create something as complex as Beast Workout. I really encourage everyone to start coding - it is so rewarding to bring something to life that people enjoy.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

Two challenges come to mind: I did a lot of prototyping to optimize usability. It was important to me that the app had a superior look and feel that is closely aligned to the top iOS apps out there in the app store. The second challenge was technical in nature: I am not a full-time developer, therefore I had to learn a lot of new technologies along the way - the biggest challenge was the machine learning engine as well as the data synchronization features.

My name is Nils Ackermann and I am a tech enthusiast and part time entrepreneur who loves to tinker with new technology and bring them to market. I love great design that is as intuitive and simple as possible. App development is one of my hobbies and where I put my heart and soul in. I live in Frankfurt Germany with my family of five.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

Here are my top three apps:
1. Blinkist: A great app that offers short audio summaries of popular (mostly non-fiction) books. It is a great way to learn about new books without spending the needed amount of time.

2. Numerical: A visually very appealing calculator that does not need an equal sign, it displays the results instantly as you type your formula.

3. Trello and Jira: two great productivity tools that help me organize my professional and private life.

How long have you been working on this app?

I started developing Beast Workout in March 2019 with the clear goal in mind to create the most intuitive and affordable fitness app in the market. The first version finally went live in December 2019.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Beast Workout aims to reach athletes with a strong passion for fitness and weightlifting. We want to become part of their regular training routine by providing a broad variety of exercises and superior analytics capability. The typical Beast Workout user is an ambitious athlete (professional as well as amateur) who is familiar with the strength and cardio training. Whoever is using the app will appreciate the ease to plan and log fitness workouts. Performance is key - Beast Workout users are looking for an app that will give them all the needed analytics to better understand how to further improve their health and fitness.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

I am myself an athlete and I have tried many different fitness apps. All apps felt a bit dated when it comes to design and most other apps are based on an expensive subscription model that even requires a sign-up before using the app. That is why I see a very strong use case for Beast Workout. Advantages compared to most other workout apps are: - In-depth machine-learning based trend and progress analysis on exercises as well as workout level which lets you easily identify areas for improvements - Recommendation engine which makes a suggestion for the next exercises based on your personal fitness ambitions - Comparison for each exercise with the average and top performance of all other Beast Workout athletes out there - Full flexibility in designing workouts, even if the workout is already ongoing - Full breadth of strength and cardio exercises is available for free (including many home workouts that are helpful during Covid-19) Intuitive and clean user interface that was designed for maximum productivity during your workout

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

I have planned an Apple Watch app that will complement the iPhone app. Also will I soon allow athletes to connect with other athletes around the world. The machine learning engine will continuously improved to provide better suggestions to users on how to improve their fitness routine.

Assuming new users of your app are reading this page. What do you want to ask them to do (contact you about X, Share the app, etc.)?

It would be great if you download Beast Workout and give it a try - most features are 100% free. I am sure that you will enjoy the design and ease of use. The app has surely helped me and many other users already to live a healthier lifestyle.
